Sinaasappels Collection
AN INTERPLAY BETWEEN ARTMAKING AND LANGUAGE LEARNING
This series of artworks builds on a sentence I encountered learning Dutch on Duolingo. In English: "My orange is not orange!", but in Dutch: "mijn sinaasappel is niet oranje".
When I painted this bright bowl of oranges, and scanned the art to make a digital print, I had to do some colour correction to the oranges. As I worked on the colours through a process of trial and error, I kept thinking of that sentence, and thus 'mijn sinaasappels', plus several variations of 'mijn sinaasappels zijn niet oranje', were born.
